Definition: A white deliquescent salt CaCl2 used in its anhydrous state as a drying and dehumidifying agent and when used in a hydrated state it is effective for controlling dust and ice on roads. Calcium chloride is hydroscopic (attracts moisture) and is exothermic (produces heat).
